2017 – Walking Rex

Walking Rex was painted in September 2017 by artist Katie Shriner – and features a girl skipping down the promenade in sandals behind her pet dinosaur on a leash.

Katie said about her piece:

The piece is called “Walking Rex”, it comes from a series of works exploring the idea of time travel in a fun way, girls being pulled or lifted back in time by pre-historic creatures.

I used Dulux outdoor house paint with round-tip brushes. There are some hidden features in the mural including a toy dinosaur and gemstones which sparkle in the Bondi sun.

I wore the same sandals to paint the mural as those featured on the mural. The girl is a version of me I guess, I have arms that are too long 🙂

On the final day of painting, a girl no more than 4 years old, in a wonder woman bathing suit came up with her dad. He explained that she loved painting so I gave her the brush and said “you can paint anything you want on here, make your mark”. She goes in and does the most perfect cross in dark pink paint.
