2018 – Bondi Flamingos

Bondi Flamingos was painted in January 2018 by Sammy Art – and features six flamingos each growing brighter and paler from left to right – and then a seventh rainbow flamingo.  All seven birds are reflected in the water below where their colours blend and drip away…

Sammy said about her piece:

The piece is called “The Bondi Flamingos”. The meaning behind the work is to stand out from the crowd. Walk to the beat of your own drum. We are all individuals so let’s keep it that way! Also, it represents acceptance and equality. Everyone has the same right and of the time of coming up with the mural it was the same-sex marriage vote.

I used Dulux exterior paints and a range of different brushes. I created the drip marks of the reflections by using lots of water and the splatter marks my flicking various brushes in all directions. To add some sparkle to my piece I used gold spray paint to splatter in areas and used a spray varnish over the top to seal it and to ensure the piece glistens in the sunshine.
